Our client is a company specializing in the distribution of mechanical building materials for the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, as well as the distribution of materials for underground infrastructures. It employs nearly 4,000 people across Canada and the United States.
Summary
Reporting to the Director, HR Shared Services, the Supervisor is responsible for producing payroll for approximately 4,000 employees in sixteen business units across Canada. He/she manages payroll operations, ensures legal compliance, and supervises the payroll team. He/she processes payroll cycles, analyzes data to detect errors, collaborates with the relevant departments for financial reporting, and answers employees' questions. He optimizes payroll processes, implements process improvement methods, and keeps abreast of legislative developments.

Main responsibilities
- Oversee the complete payroll cycle for all business units in Canada
- Manage a team of two Payroll Coordinators and one Paymaster
- Actively participate in an innovation plan development to improve existing procedures to ensure data accuracy and increase operational efficiency
- Resolve complex issues related to timesheets, stoppage entries, severance pay, absence pay, etc.
- Oversee and review the validation of various reports and remittances such as : DAS, FSTQ, RRSP/DPSP, Union Dues, Seizures, Alimony, etc.
- Supervise the production of T4s, Relevé 1s, CNESST annual declarations, etc.
- Understand and ensure compliance with collective agreements, company policies, tax laws and provincial legislation in all Canadian provinces
- Actively participate in developing team members' skills and maintaining a respectful and harmonious work atmosphere
- Carry out special projects related to the payroll department.
Profile required
- DEC in administration or other relevant discipline
- At least 10 years' relevant experience in payroll, including more than 5 years' experience in personnel management
- Payroll experience in both unionized and non-unionized environments across Canada
- Knowledge of accounting principles, financial management and payroll-related tax obligations
- Ability to supervise a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
- Fluency in spoken and written French and English
- Experience with Workday (an asset)
- Member of the National Payroll Institute (NPI)
- Ability to communicate effectively
