Our client is a large organization in the maritime sector, producing payroll for 4,000 workers in Quebec, Ontario and Eastern Canada. The payroll system used is SAP.

Summary
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Paymaster is responsible for coordinating a team of approximately 6 payroll technicians and ensuring that payroll runs smoothly. He(She) is an experienced contact person, consulted both internally and when dealing with employees and member companies of the organization.

Main responsibilities
  • Complete the entire payroll process for all territories
  • Supervise a 6 payroll technicians' team
  • Respond to official requests for information requiring analysis
  • Update employee files for certain payments
  • Act as an expert on issues relating to payroll standards
  • Monitor compliance with collective agreements in the payroll system
  • Implement and monitor complex wage garnishments and alimony payments
  • Ensure initial and ongoing training of payroll team members
  • Review work performed to ensure quality
  • Prepare and manage Records of Employment as required
  • Respond to complex requests from partners or employees
  • Consult tests and approve changes to the SAP payroll system
  • Take part in strategic discussions and decisions involving the payroll department
  • Anticipate upcoming legislative changes and their implications
  • Take part in the year-end process, including the production of tax slips
Profile required
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in payroll management
  • DEC in administration, accounting or related field
  • Knowledge of SAP HR Payroll module (Essential)
  • National Payroll Institute certification (an asset)
  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Organizational skills, autonomy and attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team
