Our client is a large Quebec-based organization offering funeral services that supports bereaved families with dignity through every stage of the grieving process. It has approximately 400 employees (the payroll volume to be processed is close to 200).

Summary

The Payroll Technician provides administrative and operational support for payroll and human resources activities for the Quebec City offices and, as needed, for the entire group. He (She) ensures the accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance of HR and payroll data, while contributing to the quality of service and local HR presence. This position combines administrative, technical, and interpersonal tasks in a human, structured, and service-oriented approach.

The workplace is located in Quebec City. Teleworking is offered after the integration period.

Main responsabilities

Full-Cycle Payroll Processing

  • Prepare, enter, and validate all data required for payroll processing (hours, premiums, vacations, leaves, absences, status changes, HR transactions) for nearly 200 employees.
  • Process the complete bi-weekly payroll or weekly using Dayforce.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and make required adjustments.
  • Respect all payroll deadlines.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding their pay and statements.

Compliance & Governance

  • Apply collective agreements, internal policies, and legislation (labour standards, taxation, insurance, etc.).
  • Maintain and update employee files (hires, departures, salary changes, leave banks, etc.).
  • Produce and validate Records of Employment (ROEs).

Analysis, Controls & Reporting

  • Produce regular payroll reports and perform reconciliations.
  • Participate in year-end reporting (T4, RL-1, summaries).
  • Prepare HR monitoring reports (leave banks, staffing changes, requests from management).

Process Improvement

  • Contribute to optimizing Dayforce and payroll processes.
  • Document payroll procedures and keep guides up to date.
  • Recommend improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and employee service.

HR Support

  • The person in this position will work in collaboration with the human resources manager and will be called upon to provide support in certain tasks.
Profile required
  • Minimum 3–5 years of payroll experience, ideally in a unionized environment.
  • DEP or AEC in accounting, administration, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency with Dayforce (major asset).
  • PCP Certification (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) (asset).
  • Solid understanding of collective agreements, labour standards, and government regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel.
  • Rigour, reliability, and strong sense of confidentiality.
